A real tree is a living thing. Look after it in the first few days and it’ll look after you right through to Christmas. We sell our trees as non-drop, and these simple steps help any tree stay at its best.
Take an inch off the base
Before it goes in the stand, take an inch or so off the bottom of the trunk. A fresh cut stops the trunk being sealed by its own sap, so the tree can drink. If it’s going up straight away, ask and we’ll do it for you at the pitch.
Not putting it up yet?
Stand it outside in a bucket of water, somewhere sheltered, until you’re ready.
Water, water, water
Use a stand that holds water. A tree drinks more than you’d think, especially in the first few days, so check the stand every morning and never let it run dry.
Keep it cool
Keep it away from radiators, fires and direct heat. A well-watered tree in a cooler spot holds its needles far longer.
After Christmas
Real trees can be recycled. Check your local council’s collection dates in January: East Hampshire, Basingstoke and Deane, Winchester or Woking, depending on where you live.
